Kya's Blog

Just a blog about day to day things that interest me.

Have I mastered it?
This is a popular look among a lot of teenage girls. It feels completely unnatural and posed, but makes us look much more attractive than we truly are. My question is, will the duck face continue to plague the photos of today's teenage girl?.... Probably. Well, you never know, it may eventually transform into more of a goose face, or chicken face or even... toucan face. Now wouldn't that be an exciting sight for everybody. I will not impose the horror of my impression of a toucan face upon you, but I'm sure I have  created some mental images.

Yes, I am going to a party dressed as the Queen of Hearts and no, I don't look one bit like her. I think it's the effort that counts. Don't worry, I ended up wearing a red dress and I can't tell whether you are able to spot it, but my lipstick is supposed to be in the shape of a heart. Those who have already dressed up as the Queen of Hearts on prior occasions might find this weak attempt humiliating, but I must add in advance that I am not very skilled in the art of makeup.

I challenge you to count the number of eyes I truly have. This was just a fun photo taken on my phone. I was looking through the gallery on my phone today and found some fun, interesting (let's leave it at interesting) photos. I'm not quite sure how I achieved this look, but trust me, this should not be attempted at home.

This was taken in a public garden near our local library. I think the white roses compliment my outfit. I can't possibly begin to describe the amazing smell emanating from the flowers around me. The smell hits you about a hundred metres away from the flowers. I love the smell of roses, don't you?

Hello once again everybody. I decided to deviate slightly today because my previous post focused on fashion and I wanted to post something on a completely different topic. This post is mainly centred around morality and some fairly unanswerable questions (in my opinion). These questions aren't mindbogglingly complicated, nor do they require complex equations or a knowledge of quantum electrodynamics to solve, but they do not have a definite answer. I'm very sure that other people have blogged about certain moral dilemmas and how they would overcome them. So I have decided to hop on the bandwagon and do a similar sort of thing. My inspiration (and questions) for this post comes from this website:
http://www.marcandangel.com/2009/07/13/50-questions-that-will-free-your-mind/
I urge everyone who reads this post to go to this website and read the other questions. I will only be using a few that have really caught my eye and got me to think, but there may be other questions that intrigue you more. I think we all have to stop, read and think about questions like these because they put life into an entirely different perspective (or at least for me). I hope you enjoy it and I would love to know how you would go about answering such questions. I realise that most of these questions may seem quite philosophical, but it helps if we keep our minds open to new theories and ideas.

1. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Oh what a never-ending question? I despise questions like these because I have so many different ideas that instantly spring to my mind and now I have the arduous task of organising them and making them more coherent. For me, failing (at pretty much anything) is a big phobia. It may sound slightly delusional, but I'm desperately afraid of failing (in general). But, on the other hand, what would be the point of living life without trying anything new? I think one way of looking at it is, that if we never try, we may never fail, but we will also lose our chances of ever succeeding. So I guess it comes down to whether we are willing to fail before eventually succeeding. In my opinion, both aspects are as bad as each other. I know that that was an easy way of getting out of the question, but for me, failing is probably as bad as never trying.

2. If you could offer a newborn child one piece of advice, what would it be?
This is a very difficult question because there are so many variables that the answer depends on. But, if this was a perfect an ideal world, where every newborn child had the potential of living 'normal' lives and weren't born to an impoverished family or weren't born into a celebrity lifestyle, then the question would be more relatable. However, since that is definitely not the world we live in, I'm going to have to adapt my answer. I would say.... stay true to yourself and stick to what you know is right and wrong. Will that suffice? I'm not sure, but you can leave some suggestions in the comments if you have any better ideas.

3. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
Basically this question prompts you to ponder whether you would rather suffer from retrograde or anterograde amnesia. Essentially, I don't want to suffer from amnesia at all, but certain incidents in life can stop you from being able to chose what memories you'd like to keep. I think it depends on what stage of life you are at. Personally, I would rather be able to make new memories because I'm only sixteen and I'll hopefully be able to make new memories in the future. Unfortunately I have so many old memories that I treasure and I don't want to forget them either. This is such a tough question...

4. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
I'm so sorry for burdening you with such awkward questions... You don't have to answer this one if you don't want to. As you can imagine, this is one of those questions that ideally you shouldn't have to think about. But, if you're somebody who always over-analyses the consequences of your actions, then it might take you a while to conjure up your answer. Not that I have ever experienced being in this particular situation, but I think I would summon up the mostly non-existent brave side of me and break the law. My reasoning behind it is that the guilt you build up for breaking the law will be cancelled out by the merit you receive for saving your loved one. But seriously, are we all that selfless?

5. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
No! I think this question is quite apt for this day and age where people are constantly trying to make themselves more attractive and thus, famous. Why? I can understand why people may want to do something like that, because they are either bullied or unhappy with the life they are leading. But, doesn't that seem extremely shallow to you? I know that the answer to this question depends on several factors, but ultimately the question should be; whether you will be happier leading a life of fame for 10 less years or living your normal life for an average length of time. Hmmm (cue 'stroking of chin').

So, there we go, a few difficult questions to totally improve your day (and if by the end you're actually crying, curled up in a ball on the floor, then.... I am so very sorry). Thank you very much for reading.

I know for some, that pointless facts are not their utmost priority, but for others, a good fact a day can really jump-start an otherwise weary morning. That may have sounded slightly cliched, but let us all admit that the most unexpected facts can sometimes catch us off-guard and have us wondering, is that really true? Can the urine of cats really glow under a black light? Can giraffes swim? Is avocado really toxic for birds? How intellectual and enlightening those questions may seem to you...
Well, if you have found any interest in my opening paragraph and now cannot stop pondering about cats, giraffes and birds, please feel free to read on. I feel like we go to school to learn hoards of information, that we must not only understand it, but we must also be able to apply and regurgitate that information in exams. But, facts are different. One must not mix the role of facts with that of subject material in schools. If we compare learning as a whole to a Christmas dinner, the school-side of it will represent the turkey and the stuffing, whereas a small fact is like a brussels sprout that is just waiting to be eaten. (Sorry to those who despise brussels sprouts, you may insert your on simile here..........).
Anyway, here are some small facts to take your mind away from the sprouts that I just mentioned.

1. Women produce half the world's food, but own only one percent of its farmland. Can you believe it? That seems a staggeringly high amount. But to be honest, I find it hard to believe that those particular women own the farmland, as they probably only work on it. Interesting how the world works.
'Hey, you know what... maybe we should get some of this land...'

2. Did you know that traffic lights were being used before the invention of the motor car? I'm not entirely sure what they were being used for....unless, horses were trained to respond to the familiar red, yellow, green colours. Somehow, I highly doubt it.
'Please stop Sir, the horse must cross'

3. A blue whale's tongue weighs more than an elephant. This may be commonly known because of how unimaginable such proportions are, but I still think it is a worthy fact in any compilation of facts.
'Oh man, this tongue is really weighing me down...'

4. Bone (presumably human) is five times stronger than steel. Now this fact I find incredibly hard to believe, due to the numerous cases of bone fractures that are received by the hospital. But essentially, it seems that bone is stronger than steel. Bone is also very flexible and light, meaning it is a seemingly perfect material.
'Hmmm, very interesting (strokes chine)... mum I have come to the decision
that I don't need to wear a helmet to ride my bike.'

5. Tiger shark embryos fight each other in their mother's womb. Only the survivor is born. From the minute they are conceived, it is a struggle for survival. Imagine having to fight against your siblings for survival... I think this may conjure thoughts of a Hunger Games that has gone horribly wrong. Let us swiftly move on.
'Haha... as you can tell, I survived' (cue Destiny's Child music)

6. Phobophobia is described as a fear of developing phobias. Do you sense some irony? I find it extremely difficult to wrap my head around this, because if you have phobophobia doesn't that defeat the purpose because you are acknowledging that you have a phobia?
'Oh man, it's tough when you're scared of being scared'

7. Apparently, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parent on a daily basis. I don't know whether this is a conscious action, where babies are given for adoption as soon as they are born or a deeply unfortunate mistake made by the doctors and midwives. Either way, it is an odd statistic. What do you think?
'Hi mummy... you look a little different, did you do something with your hair?'

8. Did you know that Al Capone's business card stated that he was a used furniture dealer? I certainly did not know that. I wonder whether he sold a lot of furniture...
'So ladies, is that a large sofa or a small one?'

9. A cat has 32 muscles in each ear. That's 64 muscles altogether, if you aren't able to add. I'm not too surprised about this fact because cats have extremely sensitive ears and they have evolved good hearing because it is so key for survival in their natural habitat. Imagine if we were able to exercise our ear muscles as much as we exercise our biceps or triceps... that would be an interesting sight.
'What? I've got how many muscles in these ears?'

10. Over 1000 birds a year die from smashing into windows. Having said that, as of yet (in my sixteen years of existence) I have not witnessed such an event, not that I wish that upon any bird. Although I have heard many a tale of this common occurrence from friends and family alike who always seem too bewildered to describe it to me. Maybe someday I shall witness it myself and then feel completely fulfilled in life... until I start to feel deeply sorry for the bird and immediately rush out to give CPR and attempt to resuscitate it.
'Oops, that is not going to end well'

I hope you enjoyed reading these facts. I chose these primarily because they caught my attention. If you would like some more similar blogposts that discuss various other facts, please leave a comment. Thank you for reading. Here are the websites that I used to discover these weird and wonderful facts of life:

Hello everybody. It appears that you like to read the more 'tag' like posts, so here is another one. However, there is a slight twist, as I have designed these questions myself. I encourage everyone to have a go and identify their 'favourites' and I apologise if you become torn between various things, I certainly found it very hard to choose some of these answers. Another 'pre-reading' confession I have to  make is that in some of the question I haven't stated my favourite, but my favourites (emphasis on the plural because I am so indecisive).

1. Favourite colour: Coral pink is my favourite colour. I have gone through many a 'favourite colours', but I am going to stand behind my first choice; coral pink. This is mainly because I find that the colour suits me quite well, meaning I have quite a lot of pieces of attire that resemble that colour and as I am the stereotypical girl, I do love the colour pink.

2. Favourite type of seafood: Now this is another random question that probably won't suit those who don't like seafood in general. However, I love all types of seafood, but my favourite would have to be prawns. I have loved tiger prawns, king prawns and all manner of shrimp for a long time and I think I have got to that stage in life, where no matter what flavouring the prawns have undergone, I will still eat them. It's difficult to say whether my addiction to prawns is normal, but those out there who share a similar love for prawns will agree that they are by far the most supreme type of (affordable yet delicious) seafood. Have I rambled on for too long about my love for prawns?... Perhaps I should stop.

3. Favourite fruit: This is a question where I have found it just too challenging to narrow it down to one type of fruit that I like, so I have chosen three of my favourites. I am deeply sorry if I am not in-keeping with the rules of this type of tag, but sometimes decisions in life are a little too hard to make. Well, I have finally (after much deep deliberation) decided to narrow this down to Jazz Apples (very specific, I know),  Papaya and Mango.

4. Favourite type of cake: I realise that you may think this tag is primarily food-related, but worry not, we will soon leave the subject of food behind. But, meanwhile, we are still pondering over cake. What's your favourite type? Can you possibly narrow it down? I have to admit that amongst all the wonderful sweet treats and delights in the world, my favourite cake and all-time favourite type of 'sweet food' has to be carrot cake. You may think it seems a little old-fashioned that I love carrot cake so much, in spite of the existence of so many chocolate cakes, but in reality, I find chocolate cakes to be a bit too rich. So, I normally stick to carrot cakes.

5. Favourite TV show when growing up: See, I promised to move off the topic of food. I don't think the segue was as smooth as I had hoped, but nevertheless, I am now on a different topic. I'm not sure how many of you recall this show, but I have recently returned to watching That's So Raven on YouTube and it has just reminded me of how much I loved the show. Growing up, I enjoyed all the shows on Disney Channel, but That's So Raven stuck out as my favourite. I must admit that, watching it now, I can understand the jokes much better, but I remember always loving that show, it's a pity they had to stop making episodes.

6. Favourite type of flower: This is far more difficult than it may seem, because I love anything that smells nice and there are certain flowers out there that not only smell divine, but look equally beautiful. On the basis of smell, I would have to pick the jasmine, because no matter where I am, I can recognise the smell. It's sweet, fresh smell has always been a favourite of mine. On the basis of appearance, I am not sure, but I am going to pick the stereotypical rose or the orchid, because I am not much of an expert. I think flowers have the ability to lift one's mood, or even change the entire mood of a room or place, so I love to see, smell or even have flowers growing around me, but it's also a real privilege because they could soon disappear.

7. Favourite mode of transport: This may seem slightly controversial, but I do love to fly. I have been doing it for quite a while and I am fairly used to long-haul flights and I am someone who generally likes the atmosphere in airports and on planes. I know that several people don't like it because it can be uncomfortable, stuffy, too loud and overcrowded, but I don't fly very frequently, so when I do have the opportunity, I quite enjoy it. I think the fact that I love to travel contributes heavily, but overall, I think it's an exciting experience.

8. Favourite YouTuber: Once again, I am undecided, so I'm going to have to pick two. I have quite a lot of YouTubers that I watch and that I am subscribed to. My favourite British YouTuber has to be SprinkleofGlitter because I love her blog and her videos make me giggle. My favourite American YouTubers are the Shaytards. I think everybody who loves their videos will agree that they lift your spirit whenever you watch their daily vlogs. I think the most prominent reason for picking these two YouTubers will have to be their ability to make me feel 'happy' and lift my spirits. They never fail to bring a smile to my day and I really appreciate that in YouTube videos.

9. Favourite Talk Show: The Ellen Degeneres Show has to be my favourite talk show. I don't actually live in America, so I find it difficult to catch each episode, but I tend to watch the videos on YouTube. I think Ellen is incredibly amusing and I think her show spreads a good message to her viewers and it always makes me cry when watching her frequent giveaways. It's really refreshing to see that she gives back to the people in need, who watch her shows and their reactions are always priceless.

10. Favourite actress: For her overall character, I am going to have to pick Jennifer Lawrence. I think her attitude towards certain parts of the industry she works in and her humour make her far more relatable, even though she is an Oscar-winning actress. Her interviews make me laugh and I find that she always seems honest when she answers and it provides a different perspective on the 'celebrity lifestyle' (plus she is amazing as Katniss Everdeen).

So, those are some of my favourite things. I hope you enjoyed reading this, I would love to know some of your favourite things, please feel free to comment. Thank you.

Hello once again. As I promised in my previous post, I am going to complete the last two outfits for summer. I found it hard to decide which occasions these outfits are designed for, but since it's summer, these particular outfits are going to be quite versatile. You can wear some similar pieces for any similar event. But, the most important thing is to feel comfortable whilst wearing these outfits, because if you're happy in the clothes you're wearing, then it will really show.

My third outfit, I have decided, can be worn to a summer soiree or a summer party. This outfit is more appropriate for the evening (I think), but by toning it down a little bit, I think it can still be worn during the daytime.
It depends on the dress code, but dresses with cutout detailing can be quite flattering
A good pair of wedges are good for the summer season

Just some sort of bag to carry your essentials
A statement jewellery piece can really enhance the look

Here are the websites where I located these particular pieces:

  • http://btrendsetting.com/nude-wedges-summer-style-and-safety-advice/

For my fourth and final outfit, I have decided to incorporate relaxed and comfortable (basically lounge-wear) with something you might wear on a long and arduous plane flight. I know it's important to feel comfortable on a plane, without giving the appearance that you left the house in your pyjamas.

Just a nice playsuit or jumpsuit

Some comfy socks to keep your feet warm and cozy
Just a light jumper, in case the cabin gets too cold
... and never forget to take a good travel bag with you

Here are the websites that inspired this particular 'look':

I really hope you enjoyed this post, I certainly enjoyed shopping around for various ideas and inspirations. Thank you for taking the time to look through my blog.

Hello everyone. The weather is finally improving and I hope that it will remain this way. I thought that in order to commemorate the warmer weather, I will attempt something that I haven't really ventured into before. I am no fashion guru and please feel free to take advice from someone slightly more qualified than me. But, I am going to organise four 'summer' outfits for four different occasions that I think look pretty and are generally wearable. I apologise if this doesn't appeal to you, but I think it's interesting to explore new things with fashion, even though they may not always be successful. Anyway, enjoy experimenting and make most of the weather.

My first outfit is going to be targeted for a day at the beach. Now bare in mind that I have never worn a bikini in my life and I don't intend to. There are people that can make any bikini look stunning, but I don't think it's in my ability to wear a bikini and make it look acceptable. So here are my ideas for a typical beach day:
Here is the swimming suit I have chosen

Just some comfortable gladiator sandals
Some sort of statement necklace to add a bit of glamour
This is just a shawl for the beach, in case it gets a little windy and cold

Here are the links to the websites where I found these particular pieces. Some of the websites don't lead you to the site where you are able to purchase the item, but they may provide you with a clearer picture.

My second outfit will be perfect for a summer barbecue in the garden with a few friends. I think this outfit doesn't have to be over-the-top, but should be comfortable, yet somewhat stylish.

A nice girly skirt is always good

Crop-tops can be quite flattering with a skirt
Little flats are comfortable and can be quite stylish
A good pair of sunglasses is essential

Here are the links for those particular items:

Well, I have decided to continue the outfit arrangements on my next post, which should be up soon. Thank you for reading and I hope you will be able to put some outfits together yourself. Good luck.
